Police in Kasungu district have arrested a 37 year-old man for soliciting money from a woman by deceiving her that he will bring her son back to life.
According to Police, the suspect, Major Phiri relocated to Kasungu from Mchinji where he was plying his business as a herbalist.
A woman whose son had died heard that the suspect has the ability to bring dead people back to life and she invited him to Chipanga Trading Centre where she lived.
The suspect demanded K500, 000 but the woman only managed to mobilise K129, 000 which the suspect received.
After some days had passed, the mother realized that she had been tricked and she reported the matter to Kasungu Police who immediately arrested the suspect.
So far, police in Kasungu have registered at least seven similar complaints against the suspects.
Phiri who comes from Malaza village under Traditional Authority Malanga in Nkhatabay district will appear before court soon to answer the charge of theft by trick which is contrary to Section 271 of the Penal Code.
