A Lilongwe based radio station, Pentecostal Life FM, risks being shut down or suspended for making what are termed as disparaging remarks against the country’s leadership.

Information which Malawi24 has indicates that the Malawi Communications Regulations Authority (MACRA) is acting on complaints that were lodged against the radio station following a series of Programs the radio aired titled ‘Ndilibe pulobulemu’.

The programs were aired following President, Peter Mutharika’s unfortunate remarks at a rally that he had no problems despite the country sailing through troubled waters.

The information we have indicates that MACRA has found the radio station guilty of defaming public figures and disparaging them.

MACRA claims that the programs that the radio station aired aimed to ridicule and tarnish the image of public figures including Mutharika.

As we went to press, we had established that MACRA has an option of revoking the licence of the radio station so that it can cease to operate.
