Man dies after bar fight

A man in Nkhotakota district died on Friday, a few days after being beaten at a drinking joint.

The deceased Pilirani Stephano (30) was seriously assaulted on May 14, 2016 at Chikondi bar within Chisaka trading centre in the district.

According to the father of the deceased, Stephano Foster, his son came home complaining that a fellow village Chimwemwe Gome assaulted him at a drinking joint.

PoliceHe said his son and Gome had a quarrel which ended in a fight. After well-wishers separated them, Stephano went home.

But three days later, after noting that he was not feeling well, he went to Thavite health centre where he was treated as an outpatient.

And on May 20, 2016 when he realised that he was not getting no better he reported the matter to Benga police unit.

The police issued Stephano with a medical report and he went to Mtosa health centre where he was referred to Nkhotakota district hospital. But he died the same day before receiving treatment at the hospital.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects and say once he is apprehended they will charge him with murder.

The deceased hailed from Pamphala village in the area of senior chief Mwadzama in Nkhotakota.
