Police at Malomo in Ntchisi district have arrested a 28 year-old woman for setting on fire a chicken pen belonging to her husband.

The suspect Manesi Richard who is a second wife to the victim, Richard Kamanga, 32, burned a chicken coop and 10 chickens as well as a dimba garden fence all valued at K31,200.

The incident happened on Saturday at around 9PM at Kamanga Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi.

PolicePolice investigations revealed that the suspect torched the property to penalise her husband who was failing to provide her with necessities.

Malawi24 understands that the husband who is a polygamist is on separation with Manesi and the suspect previously filed for divorce in court accusing her husband of failing to take care of her and her child.

On the day of the incident complained that the couple’s son who is under 5 years-old was suffering from malaria and needed money to buy medicine.

However, Kamanga did not provide money for the drugs. This irked Manesi and at night she splashed human faeces on the door and window of Kamanga’s house and later torched the chicken’s pen.

When Kamanga woke up and saw the burning pen and faeces on the hasps of the door and window, he immediately suspected Manesi because she had seemed angry when they met during daytime. Manesi, upon interrogations, admitted to have committed the offence.

The suspect who comes from Chinthele Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi is expected to appear in court soon to answer the charge of arson.
