Police nab CEAR station manager

Police in the commercial city of Blantyre have arrested a station manager for Central East African Railways (CEAR) for stealing motorcycles.

The manager, Christopher Manyela, 34, stole 4 motorcycles and 17 cartons of motorcycle spare parts transported from Nacala in Mozambique to Blantyre.

crime (2)Confirming to Malawi24, Chileka Police spokesperson Grace Mwale said the container had 32 motorcycles and 17 cartoons of motorcycle spare parts imported by Mohammed Umer.

“Upon arrival of the cargo in Blantyre, the station manager took 4 motorcycles and all the cartoons that had spare parts and sold them to John Ching’amba,” said Mwale.

Mwale further said Police have since recovered the stolen motorcycles and the cartoons of spare parts.

The suspect is yet to appear in court to answer charges of theft by servant contrary to section 286(1) of the Malawi’s Penal Code.

Manyela comes from Mpasu village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Chimaliro in Thyolo district.
