Mutharika’s speech in Parliament was boring – Chaponda

Malawi President Peter Mutharika’s choice of a Leader of the House in Parliament to take over from Francis Kasaira could never have been any worse.

The Malawi leader announced ahead of the 2016/17 Parliamentary budget session that he has appointed George Chaponda as the leader house. He will be taking over from Francis Kasaira who is minister of foreign affairs. According to the statement from state house, Mutharika felt that the demands of the ministry would make Kasaira fail to act effectively in the capacity of leader of the house.

However, at his first ever sitting as leader of the house under Peter Mutharika leadership, Chaponda decided to send a strong message to his boss.

Chaponda was captured sleeping while Mutharika was addressing the August house.

According to Felix Unyolo, a psychologist who reads body languages, Chaponda was telling Mutharika that his speech was boring.

“You do not sleep through something entertaining, boring things push people to sleep,” said Unyolo.

Malawi24 news analyst William Simango said that the picture communicated a lot on Mutharika’s choice of leader of the house.

“We are not going anywhere as a country with a leader of the house who sleeps in the house while the house is in session,” said Simango.

“Of all people, Chaponda had to be alert,” he said.
