Twelve Malawian girls who left the country to seek jobs in Kuwait are stranded in the Arab Kingdom.

The girls left the country months ago saying they are going to get good jobs in the foreign land.

However, in Kuwait they were being abused and were forced into prostitution, a development that angered them together with their parents here in Malawi.

Kasaila: Govt has no money to repatriate them.

Now the young women wants to fly back to Malawi but says they do not have money to buy themselves air tickets.

Malawi24 has established that their parents too are failing to repatriate their children and has since asked the Malawi government to help them.

However, the government has rebuffed the request saying it does not have money for repatriation of the twelve girls but says it is its responsibility to do so.

Malawi’s minister of foreign affairs and international relations Francis Kasaila says the girls will stay little bit longer in the foreign land and has asked the relatives of the young women to facilitate repatriation of the girls as the government seeks money for the same.

“As a government we don’t have a separate budget for repatriation of people outside. Some area we feel strongly that people should deficit from traveling out when they are not very sure of where they are going.

“So, because we don’t have money, those who cannot afford to pay for their own travel will stay a little bit longer so that we should find resources for their repatriation.” said Kasaila.

Meanwhile the stranded girls are with the Kuwait embassy as they are waiting for their repatriation to Malawi the warm heart of Africa.

  1. its a total arrogancy to think these girls are stubbon. The thuth is that they are economic immigrants we are left without a choice in our own country. Government fails to grow economy so as to create jobs. Citizens get educated to an impressive points but can’t get jobs in their own country what else could we expect from this desperate nation other than flowing out of the country?
