Sulom against attacks on people with albinism

The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has said it is deeply concerned with the increase in cases of abductions, killings and exhumation of remains of persons with albinism in the country.

According to a statement released by Sulom general secretary Williams Banda titled football against victimisation of person’s with albinism, Sulom is against the acts and has joined hands with the Association of Person’s with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) in fighting against the victimisation of people with albinism.

“To this effect we are taking a bold step to denounce and condemn these barbaric acts and we are standing strong with our colleagues of the Association of Person’s with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) in the fight against the abductions, killings and exhumation of remains of persons with albinism,” reads part of the statement signed by Williams Banda.

The statement further says that they have organised activities and there will be a solidarity stand during Super League matches that will be played in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu on the weekend of 21 and 22 May, 2016.

“To demonstrate our stand, there will be solidarity stand during the matches of 21-22 May 2016 weekend in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu. There will be activities on the same in the games involving NMC Bullets vs Mzuni at Kamuzu Stadium, EPAC vs CIVO at CIVO stadium and Karonga Utd vs Be Forward Wanderers at Mzuzu Stadium,” Banda said in the statement.

The statements adds that a one minute silence will be observed before the commencement of all the Super League games played during the weekend of 21-23 May 2016 in honor of beloved brothers and sisters with albinism who have been victimized or killed of late.
