Chiwanda, a 21-year old school leaver and brick-layer, won the K2 million cash value during the Ufulu@50 promotion by TNM.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Chiwanda said he saw the need to donate the three computers to the NGO, Foundation for Community and Capacity Development (FOCCAD), to assist the organisation’s work in promoting vocational training of youth in the central region district.

“I’m encouraged by the work of FOCCAD to help develop the youth in skills and knowledge through the organisation’s development programs. Through this, FOCCAD is helping build the future of school leavers in this area and it has pleased me to donate my prize to them,” he said.

FOCCAD Executive Director Dan Nthala thanked Chiwanda and TNM for what he described as timely donation.

“These computers have come at a right time as we have launched an IT incubation program where we want our young people to come and learn computers. The organisation registered a number of young people for this program but we lacked facilities like computers to kick-start,” said Nthala.

TNM’s Manager for the North Yamikani Bakuwa said the company was satisfied with the projects that have been handed over so far as they have spread across all social fabrics of the society.

He said computers are very critical in the modern world hence the provision of computer knowledge to the students cannot be overemphasised.

“As a telecommunication company whose operations hugely depend on the computer technology, the critical need for computer knowledge cannot be over-emphasised,” said Bakuwa

Established in 2002, FOCCAD reaches out to over 45,000 young people in Nkhotakota districts with its vocational training and other programs aimed to keep youth busy.
