Blantyre police registers people with albinism

Amid increasing attacks on albinos, police in Blantyre have been forced to register all people with albinism in the city.

The development has emerged as a way of curbing increasing cases of brutal killings and abduction of people with albinism in the country.

Senior assistant commissioner of police Ellobium Banda said Blantyre district has commenced registrations of people living with albinism and their relations in order to easily monitor them.

“This registration will enable us to work together with communities easily and keep track on the daily activities of people living with albinism,” Banda explained.

Banda said registering these people will help the police to know the proper details of how many the society is having, their relations, and the school they attend for easy identification of any form of abuse.

Malawi is becoming unfriendly for people with albinism as there are some inhuman people who look for their body parts.

Recently, President Peter Mutharika warned the public to stop the inhuman malpractice of killing, abducting and exhuming the remains of people with albinism.

The exercise is good to some extent but as others have already argued,do we have to trust the police that they will custodily keep the records without any possible leakage?Some police officers play ‘double standards’.Otherwise,this can easily expose our dear brothers & sisters as the registration may include names and their locations hence making them to be easily traced.The police should discipline itself for the success of this exercise.

But that’s against the constitution of Malawi which doesn’t allow the discrimination of people according to the colour of their skin,counting the number of albinos as if u counting how many goats you have and how many cows you have,that is a violation of people’s rights,Albinos are people and that will put them even in more great danger,what if the register leaks into wrong hands,the would be murderers will know exactly were to go to find albinos because they will be having addresses……thank Malawi police for putting albinos in greater danger,I’m dissappointed in you..

    3. #Vint that’s true koz for example they will kno that at Bangwe we hav 5 albinos,then in Chilimba we hav 9 of them so those details its easy to find them koz it is the same police officers who can communicate with those who kill them
