Man abducts, rapes 13 year-old girl

Malawi Police officers in Blantyre city have arrested a 23 year-old man for abducting and raping a 13 year-old girl.

The suspect, Jones Juma, was arrested following police investigations into the report of the missing girl from Ndirande Township in Blantyre.

RapeConfirming to Malawi24, Blantyre police spokesperson Elizabeth Divala said the girl went to visit her grandparents at Nyambadwe residential area in the city but later went back to her home in Ndirande to take her clothes and told her parents she wanted extend her stay at her grandparent’s home.

However, after finding out that she had not gone to her grandparent’s house, the parents reported the matter to police.

“After her parents reported that their child was missing we launched our investigation and we have arrested Juma who abducted the girl,” said Juma.

A Medical report from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) revealed that the girl was raped several times.

The suspect is yet to appear in court to answer charges of defilement contrary to Section 138 (1) and abduction contrary to section 404 of the penal code.

He hails from Mtolela village, Traditional Authority (TA) Mkanda in Mulanje district.
