Kamuzu Stadium was turned into a civil war garrison today as Nyasa Big Bullets conquered MDF Marine in the 2016 Presidential Cup to advance to the round of 16 of the competition.

Despite Bullets making a few changes to the team that drew 2-2 with Mafco last week, they displayed excellent football from the word go and proved too much for the visitors.

The hosts did not take long to issue a statement when they scored their first goal of the match through Mike Mkwate.

Macfallen Ngwira was a marvel to watch in the flanks only that Chiukepo Msowoya and Muhammad Sulumba who were playing upfront were too shy to convert the crosses into goals. It was Mkwate again who found the back of the net to double Bullets’ lead.

Before the final whistle of the first half, it was 2-0 in favour of the 2015 Super League champions with Mkwate scoring both goals.

After the break, Nyasa Big Bullets came in with fresh ideas as they were in search for more goals but MDF Marine goalkeeper Innocent Pinto guarded his goal posts well as he was producing excellent saves that were frustrating the strong Bullets attacks.

After the one hour mark, Chiukepo Msowoya could have put Bullets 3-0 up but his shot was well saved by Pinto. Sulumba came close on several occasions to increase the People’s Team’s lead but he kept on missing the target.

However, as the game was going towards the end, he made amends for the misses when he scored Bullets’ third goal after he was well set in the box and the game ended 3-0 in favour of Bullets.

Speaking to the media after the game, Nyasa Big Bullets technical director Billy Tewesa said he was happy with the result and congratulated his players for the win.

Tewesa further said that reaching the finals of the Presidential Cup this year is what they are looking forward to. On his part, Marine’s coach conceded defeat and said that Bullets deserved to win it.

In other Presidential Cup games, Wizards beat Partners 16-2, Mafco fc beat Ntchisi Ambassadors 12 nil while Moyale Barracks hit 15 past Masendesende to advance to the national level.
