Two killed in road accidents in Dedza

Two people were killed on Friday in separate road accidents in Dedza district, police say.

In the first accident, a road traffic officer hit to death a male pedestrian.

Dedza police deputy publicist Cassim Manda   identified the officer as Innocent Sulani, 28, who works with Zomba Road Traffic and Safety Services and the victim as Samson John, 52.

road accidentAccording to Manda, the accident occurred at Msambiro near Dedza Mountain View lodge on Friday when a motor vehicle registration number MN 4928 Honda fit saloon driven by Mr Sulani was coming from Lilongwe heading towards Zomba direction along M1 road.

On arrival at Msambiro within Dedza, the vehicle hit John who was crossing M1 road from left to right.

The pedestrian died on spot due to severe head injuries.

Samson John hailed from Chiyembekeza village T/A Kachere in Dedza district.

In the other accident, a cyclist was hit to death by a motor vehicle.

Manda said the accident occurred at Kadewere village along M5 road when a Toyota Hilux Double Cabin of registration BS1402 driven by Giant Scot, 60, hit to death the cyclist.

The deceased has been identified as 25 year-old Edezio Constantino of Mtandamaha village T/A Kachindamoto in Dedza who carried a female passenger.

Following the crash, Constantino died on the spot due to severe head injuries while the pillion passenger sustained a leg fracture.

  2. RIP. I think this traffic officer was over speeding. Please be driving with speed which can make control the vehicle in times of need.
