K35, 000 earns man 8 years in jail

A 25 year-old man in Mwanza district has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for breaking into a house and stealing K35, 000.

CourtAccording to Mwanza Police Publicist Edwin Kaunda, the convict, Henry Samson, broke into a house of Joyce Nayaka and stole the money while Nayaka was selling second hand clothes at Mwanza Market.

Nayaka discovered the shortage in her money when she got home and she reported the issue to Mwanza Police who arrested Samson on the same day.

During court hearing at Mwanza First Grade Magistrate Court, Samson pleaded guilty to charges of housebreaking and stealing.

Passing judgement, First Grade Magistrate Ranwell Mangazi sentenced Samson to eight years in jail. Samson hails from Nchotseni village, Traditional Authority Kanduku in Mwanza.
