Judiciary delays cases for Neno murder suspects

Ten suspects arrested for the brutal killing of four elderly people in Neno district are yet to appear in court, Malawi24 can report.

The suspects, 36 year-old Staford Chifundo, Amosi Sida, 32, Samuel Kaudzu, 20, John Harry, 21, Lex Mayenda aged 19, Manford Dyson, 15, Patrick Kanjete, 14, Lyton Silence, 15, Ben Saukila aged 14 and 13 year-old Eliya Mapeto were arrested for being suspected to have had a hand in the death of the four senior citizens in the district.

According to information sourced by this publication, the suspects are still on remand at Chichiri prison in the commercial city of Blantyre.

Judiciary spokesperson Mlenga Mvula said they are yet to identify a judge for the case and dates for court appearances are to be announced later.

However, Malawi Police have confirmed that investigation on the case were finalized and they are waiting to be disclosed in the court of law.

Earlier this year, four elderly were killed in Neno district for being suspected to have killed their relation using witchcraft lightning.

The four, Byson Kanjete 73, Eliza Enoce Kanjete 83, Elenefa Kanjete, 76 and Julius Kanjete were believed to have been behind the death of their granddaughter who was struck by lightning.
