The Mzuzu Second Grade Magistrate Court has sentenced an 18 year-old man for raping a little girl on several occasions.
The teenager, Peter Mhango, who is a form three student at Chibavi Community Day Secondary School used to sneak into the 8 year-old girl’s room at night to rape her.
The friend of the convict revealed the incident and the issue was reported to Luwinga Police.
A medical examination at Mzuzu Central Hospital showed that the girl had been raped. The convict was charged for defilement contrary to section 138 of the penal code.
In mitigation, the rapist told the court that he sexually abused the girl in order to feed a spiritual demon which has been tormenting him since he was in standard 5.
He said raping the child was a fulfillment of the covenant he made when he joined satanic. Passing judgment, Magistrate Major Mbewe sentenced Mhango to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour to let others get a lesson.
The convict hails from Sonda Village, Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba.
