Nankhumwa: We saw the need for the loans.

Nankhumwa said the one million kwacha loans will be deducted in the coming 33 months and will have a ten percent interest rate.

“Yes, we have now moved a step forward that the government has now been able to give the motor cycle loan for councillors. We have done this considering that most of the councillors are facing transportation challenges.

“So these motor cycle loan will help in their supervision of different areas in as far as their job is concerned and our expectations on the loans is that these councillors will be able to repay,” said Nankhumwa.

He added that this is an ongoing initiative saying the next councillors will also be granted the loans since government want to reduce transportation expenses for the councillors.

Malawi has 462 councillors now that also means the government is to spend MK462 million on the loans.
