Polytechnic student sells beans to survive

Having in mind that only the strongest survives, a student from the Malawi Polytechnic is selling beans to survive and pay for his tuition fees.

The student, Patrick Harry Thakila who is studying Environmental Science and Technology, decided to start the business to make ends meet at the college.

Speaking in an interview with Malawi24, Thakila said his business also supports his younger brother who is a student at Chichiri Secondary School.

“I do that so that I can earn a living with my brother and to pay for my tertiary studies. Life is really tough for me because the business I am doing now does not meet the cost of living in this city,” said Thakila.

According to Thakila, he makes a profit of K3000 a week and he uses the money to buy food and pay rent.

The student has since appealed to well-wishers to support him financially as one way of taking away the hiccups that have rocked his life.

The development comes at a time when many students are reportedly withdrawing from public universities due to lack of financial support.

Students from Polytechnic have since generated over K80 million to assist fellow students who are in dire need of help.
