A researcher from the University of Oxford has warned that Malawi’s warm and humid weather makes the country susceptible to the Zika virus.
The researcher, Dr. Oliver Brady, made the remarks following the release of a new detailed map which is indicating that over 2.2 billion people are living in areas where the virus can easily hit them.
The map published in the journal eLife, with Brady as one of the lead researchers, shows that countries which are just above and below the equator particularly those with warm and humid weather, risks catching the virus.
The results further show that Africa and Asia has large areas that could be susceptible to the virus.
However, the country’s ministry of health, has for the second time refuted the risk of the deadly virus arguing that the chances of the virus hitting the country is very low.
Earlier this year, the government through the ministry of health, assured its people that the ministry responsible is geared up to fight the Zika outbreak.
He said the main carrier of the outbreak, mosquitoes as per said, are too different from those in South America where the disease has spread rapidly.
However, Brady in the map said the outbreak is not only spread by mosquitoes. He said the mosquitoes are just one condition for the spreading of the virus.
People with Zika virus usually have a mild fever, skin rashes and conjunctivitis, red and sore eyes, joint pain, and headache.
