As Malawi on Thursday joins the rest of the world in commemorating the Day for Safety and Health at Work, government has asked employers to make sure that they provide good working conditions to their workers.

Minister responsible Henry Mussa said it is important for employees to make sure that their workers are in a good working environment.

“Workplace is supposed to be decent, motivating and worth calling a work place,” said Mussa.

He added that employers need to comply with occupational safety and health so that employees work in good condition.

Mussa further said that at the moment the ministry is facing problems due to lack of inspectors who can go into the companies to monitor if employers are complying with the conditions.

The Day for Safety and Health at Work falls on 28 April every year and is aimed to promote safe, healthy and decent workplaces.

According to International Labour Organisation, every year two million men and women lose their lives through accidents and diseases linked to their work.
