Tigers pile more misery on Silver Strikes

Bright Munthali scored the only goal of the match in the late minutes of the second half was enough to hand Azam Tigers their first win of the season as they beat Silver Strikers at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday afternoon.

Both Tigers and Silver Strikers were coming from a frustrating week after Tigers were held 2 all by newly promoted Maxi Bullets into the Malawi elite league, whereas Silver were beaten 2-1 by Mighty Be forward Wanderers.

The match at Silver stadium started on a slow pace as both sides were displaying were poor footballing skills as they were failing to break each others defense in the opening minutes of the game.

20 minutes into the first half both sides started building some momentum as they now started attacking each other with some purpose but they all failed to break the deadlock as both goal goalkeepers were guarding their goals well.

Clement Trota and Thuluso Paipi come closer for Silver Strikers on several occasions but Tigers goalkeeper Thomas Kalavina stood firm as he did not allow the two to find his net.

On the other end Tigers come closer through Yamikani Chester but his effort was denied by the Brighton Munthali and the first half ended in a stalemate.

After the break both Tigers and Silver come in with fresh ideas as they all started playing football with some purpose as they were all in search for an opener of the match but Munthali and Kalavina were all equals to the tasks.

As the game was going towards the end Bright Munthari capitalized on Silver Strikers goal minder error and scored for the Tigers in the 84th minute of the match.

After that goal Azam Tigers continued pressurizing the central bankers as they were in search for their second goal of the match and the game ended 1 nil in favor of Gerald Phiri side, Azam Tigers.

The result leaves Silver Strikers winless in the first two weeks of the Malawi elite league.

After the game Tigers technical director Robbin Alufandika thanked his boy for the win and added that it is not easy to win away.

In other league results played today Wanderers were held 1 all by Dwangwa United at Kamuzu stadium, whereas Moyale Barracks beat Kamuzu Barracks 3-1 at Mzuzu Stadium and Blue Eagles beat Epac 2-1 at Nankaka stadium.
