Man sent to prison for stealing from his wife

The Ntchisi First grade magistrate court has sentenced a 50 year-old man to 3 years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing from his wife.

ArrestedThe man has been identified by the police as Pearson Phiri from Chikhala village in the district.

The court heard that the convict on July 14, 2014 stole ten 50Kg bags of beans worth 135,000 Kwacha belonging to his wife.

Police later arrested Phiri and charged him with theft which is contrary to section 278 of the penal code.

When passing the sentence, First grade magistrate Dorothy Kalua said the offender deserved a custodial sentence to deter other would-be offenders.

She then slapped the him with a 3 year jail term.

Phiri hails from Chikhala village in the area of T/A Kalumo in Ntchisi district.
