A thief drowned on Wednesday after he fell into a sewage as he was running away from neighborhood watch members in Lilongwe city.
According to police in Lilongwe, the burglar was part of a group of criminals who broke into the house of a resident in in Area 18 in the city at around 3 am on Wednesday.
Police Station Spokesperson Inspector Kingsley Dandaula said a guard at the house screamed for help when he saw the robbers.
The guard’s screams alerted the neighbourhood watch security who started chasing after the thugs.
While running away from the group, one of the thugs fell into a sewage and he was found dead later in the morning.
A post-mortem Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) showed that the criminal died due to suffocation. The body is currently at KCH mortuary pending identification.
