Only in Nigeria! Uncanny, but this is not a scene in a Nollywood soap! A referee who died in January has been appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation to officiate a league game this weekend.

Nigeria FootballThe appointment comes following a disagreement between two officials claiming legitimacy to the Nigeria’s FA top position. Amaju Pinnick is recognized by FIFA as the rightful president while his adversary, Chris Giwa, successfully challenged Pinnick’s appointment in Court and was given the nod to head the FA.

But in a move to wrest control, Giwa has named Wale Akinsanya, who died in January, among those selected to officiate this weekend’s top-flight between Warri Wolves and Giwa FC.

Meanwhile, Fifa has warned that Nigeria risks suspension should the wrangle continue.
