A baby has been found dumped at Namame River in Soche Township in the commercial city Blantyre.
Limbe police deputy assistant public relations officer Widson Nhlane confirmed the incident to Malawi24.
According to Nhlane, some residents who were crossing the river on Monday are the ones who found the bay.
“Some people who were crossing the said river around 10pm heard a baby crying and when they went closer they found that it was a one week baby,” he explained.
Nhlane said officers took the baby to police station and later to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for treatment.
He added that investigations are underway to trace the mother of the one week male baby.
According to Nhlane, if the mother is found, she is going to answer charges of dumping a baby.
The police have however appealed to general public to tip police about anyone they suspect to have done the malpractice.
