Super League Week 1 round up: Goals and draws

It was a week to remember for Mighty Be Forward Wanderers, Mafco fc, Red Lions and Blue Eagles as they have all collected three points in the opening week of Malawi’s elite league.

On Saturday, Mafco fc player Chikondi Maloya became the first player to register his name in this seasons Tnm Super League when his team was playing against Mzuni fc at Chitowe ground and the match ended 1 nil in favour of the Salima based soldiers.

At Civo Stadium, Civo United came from behind to draw 2-2 against Kamuzu Barracks on Saturday afternoon.

On the same day, Moyale Barracks had a positive trip to Blantyre when they held Nyasa Big Bullets to a goalless draw at Kamuzu Stadium after displaying an entertaining match to the multitude of people that gathered to witness the launch of the new football season.

Come Sunday, fresh from their 2-0 loss to Nyasa Big Bullets in the Chifundo Shield Cup last week, Wanderers beat Silver Strikers 2-1 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday afternoon.

The Nomads won courtesy of a first half goal from Francis Mulimbika and a second half goal from Peter Wadabwa whereas the central bankers scored their goal through Danken Nyoni in the first half of the match.

In another match played on Sunday, rookies Dwangwa United were beaten 1 nil by Blue Eagles at Chitowe ground in Nkhotakota while Red Lions beat Epac fc 1 nil at Balaka Stadium.

At Kamuzu Stadium, Azam Tigers salvaged a 2 all draw with Max Bullets after coming from behind. Mayeso Mphanje and Wongani Zulu put Max ahead before Bright Munthali and Elia Munthali levelled the matters to deny Max from registering a win in the opening match.

Week one has produced 14 goals in 7 matches, this means that there has been an average of two goals in every match in the opening week of the Tnm Super League.

Tnm Public Relations officer, Limbani Nsapato said this season’s league has started on an impressive note and football fans should expect to watch quality football.

Nsapato however advised all football fans to stay away from violence and to avoid hooliganism in all venues.
