Murder suspects on the run in Nkhatabay

Police in Nkhatabay district have launched a manhunt for three suspected criminals who murdered a man in a fight that broke out at a drinking joint in the district.

According to Nkhatabay police publicist sub inspector Ignatius Esau, the three suspects are family members.

crime (2)He identified them as Laston Mhone, 26, Tambulani Mhone, 18 and Zondani Mhone, 19, all from Chidumayo village in the area of Traditional Authority Kabuduli in the district.

The three killed a 34 year-old man who has been identified as Christopher Phiri. According to Esau, Phiri’s wife reported to police that his husband was being beaten but when officers rushed to the scene they found Phiri lying dead while the suspects had already run away. The law enforcers are yet find out what caused the fight.

In a related development, police in the same district are also looking for 40 year-old Nthowa Chirwa for killing a 29 year-old man.

Malawi24 has learnt that the suspect killed the man last week Monday as he was suspecting him of being in a love affair with his ex-wife.

On this day, the man ambushed the deceased and hacked him with an axe in his head as he was coming from a drinking point.

Chirwa hails from Chima village in the area of Traditional Authority Kabunduli Meanwhile, police have assured all people in the district of tight security and says all the criminals who are at large will be brought to book very soon to answer charges of murder.
