Police in Lilongwe have expressed concern over the increase in theft in the capital city.
Lilongwe public relations officer Kingsley Dandaula said there are increasing reports of robbers breaking into vehicles to steal cellphones, cash and laptops.
He explained that the thugs use screw drivers to open the vehicles.
Dandaula however said the security situation in the city has put the law enforcers on alert.
Among other measurers, the police are conducting sweeping exercises and patrols in various townships in the city.
According to the police publicist, they have managed to arrest some thieves who were found with screw drivers.
Dandaula has since advised people in the city to avoid leaving laptops, cellphones or cash in their vehicles to avoid falling victim to the crimes.
