Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization (CTO) has disclosed plans to help advance Malawi’s telecommunications sector.
Speaking after meeting the CTO Secretary General Shola Taylor in London on Friday, Malawi’s ambassador in the United Kingdom Kena Mphonda said Malawi is to benefit a lot from the project.
““I was pleasantly surprised to see so much improvements by the CTO and I can see that Malawi will benefit significantly from the plans I have seen.” said Mphonda.
Among the fruits Malawi is to reap from the project is support to Malawi’s Communications Regulatory Authority in promoting a legal and regulatory environment that is responsive to new and rapid changes in the global ICT industry.
In addition, the project will focus on providing assistance in facilitating stakeholder engagement on regulatory issues including licensing, spectrum, numbering, roaming, over-the-top service providers, standards, quality of service, compliance monitoring and user identification.
CTO will also put its sharp eye on implementation of strategies for universal service throughout Malawi, assisting Malawi to develop its national cybersecurity strategy and supporting the country in its preparation for the forthcoming World Telecommunications Standardisation Assembly to take place from 25 October to 3 November 2016.
Apart from Malawi, CTO looks forward to have similar projects in other Southern African countries.
