15 year-old arrested for stealing baby

Police in Nkhotakota district are keeping in custody a 15 year-old girl for stealing a child at Nkhotakota Boma Market.

According to police, the mother of the baby and the suspect were in a tailoring shop waiting for their clothes to be worked on.

crime (2)The girl, who was at this time holding the child, later asked the mother if she could go outside with the baby to drink water and the woman accepted.

The girl then left as if she was going to a borehole located some 15 meters from the shop but she did not return.

The woman reported the incident to Nkhotakota Police Station and police launched a massive hunt for the girl.

The law enforcers later managed to arrest the girl.

The suspect will soon appear in court to answer the charge of stealing a baby.

She hails from Lizinda village, Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota.
