Police net 80 in sweeping exercise

Police in Limbe have arrested 80 suspects during a sweeping exercise conducted on Thursday.

According to Assistant Public Relations Officer for Limbe Police Widson Nhlane, some of the suspects were on the police’s wanted list.

Police“The suspects were arrested during a sweeping exercise which took place on the night of 14-15 April this year and some of the suspects were on our wanted list,” said Nhlane.

He added that the suspects have been charged for various offences including operating a business without licence as well as rogue and vagabond among others.

According to Nhlane, the suspects appeared in court on Friday where they were answering the charges levelled against them.

He however said the law enforcers will continue conducting sweeping exercises in order to ensure security in the city.

The areas which are being targeted are Makhetha, Khama, Mpigwe, BCA, Chigumula, Chinyonga, Namiyango, Kachere and Bvumbwe.

  5. I have never and will never be impressed with the so called ‘sweeping exercise’. The police officers patrol the main roads only yet they know that thieves break into houses away from the main roads. Until the patrols extend to all corners of neighbouroods, MPS is incompetent in this area.
