The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has urged people in the country to continue paying tax for the betterment of the nation.
MRA deputy director of corporate affairs Steve Kapoloma said the tax collector has put in strategies to make sure people remit their taxes.
”We have put in strategies to those who had not been remitting their taxes for the past three months so that they pay,” said Kapoloma.
MRA revenue performance report for March 2016 shows the authority collected K43.5 billion in March 2016 against a projection of K45.3 billion.
This also shows that MRA is collecting less tax since in February 2016 it collected K44.2 billion collected
According to the report, Malawi’s tax revenue collected during the 2015/16 financial year to date amounted to K416.9 billion against a projection of K427.9 billion, representing a 97 percent collection.
Kapoloma said the MRA has now intensified audit to make sure that there is no tax that is stuck somewhere so that all the revenue is collected and remitted to government.
