Azam Tigers football club have offloaded nine players in a bid to rebuild the team.
The club’s team manager Sammy Ngwira has confirmed the development.
The released players are Owen Mphasi, Anthony Kaipa, Robert Kanyange, Felix Kasekera, Chifuniro Gombwa, Diverson Chilemba, Wongani Kachisanja, Nevman Mwamusamali and Fraser Menyani.
In the just-ended transfer window, the Kau-Kau boys lost their key players such as goalkeeper Nenani Juwaya and Ernest Kakhobwe who went to Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets respectively.
But the club managed to sign William Thole and Nixon Mwase from Mzuzu United, Chikumbutso Henderson from Mponela United, Martin Chongwe from Nyasa United and Alex Mkorongo from Michiru Madrid.
Meanwhile the Kanjedza based outfit will on Sunday meet Red Lions at Kamuzu Stadium in their first preseason friendly against a Super League club.
Ngwira said the team did not meet a Super League team in the early weeks of preseason because the technical panel wanted to focus on training.
“The pre-season was for our rebuilding exercise. We needed to see players expressing themselves on the pitch without being under pressure to win,” Ngwira said.
