Relegated super league side Dedza Young Soccer will have to face the other teams in the play offs to find the sixteenth team to participate in the league, a ruling has been made.

Dedza has been protesting against the decision by the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) that the three relegated teams in the 2015 Super League season will be involved in play offs in order to have 16 teams in the 2016 league season.

The injunction stopped Sulom from holding the matches but Wizards played Airborne last month.

Dedza claimed that  Sulom did not take a proper decision to announce at a late time about the play offs indicated that it would relegate only two clubs in the 2015-16 season and bring in three to fulfil their plans of having 16 teams starting from the 2016 soccer season.

Dedza Young Soccer: Will now have to partake in the play offs.

Sulom statuses, in Article 16 state that three bottom teams are relegated to the lower leagues, with three teams getting promotion from the lower leagues to the main league.

As per mandated by the new guidelines adopted in November, 16 teams are supposed to be in the 2016 Super League, forcing Sulom to use play offs in order to have the 16th team.

The court had then asked Sulom to meet the saint officials on the matter to resolve it as the news season nears.

The seating had Blessings Shaba the teams Chairperson, Harold M’mora the teams’s General Secretary,  Mathews Salima who is a Treasurer, Williams Nkhoma who acts as the team’s Legal Advisor, Patrick Chambuluka who is the teams’ member  as well as Sulom’s General Secreatry, Williams Banda.

In its determination the seating resolved that ‘Sulom  must reschedule the remaining play off matches herein as soon as is reasonably possible and must allow DYS to participate in the said play offs in order to determine the 16th team.’

It also resolved that ‘the result of the game already played in the play offs between FISD Wizards and Airborne Rangers FC which was concluded before the play offs were suspended by an Order of Injunction will stand and count for the first match of the play offs.’

It also asks Dedza Young Soccer to vacate the injuction it obtained as well as asking Sulom to meet the costs of the teams in the play offs.

The seating has since said that ‘any party aggrieved by this determination be accorded a right to appeal further to FAM if so minded on payment of appropriate fees and within the stipulated time frames before the play offs are scheduled.’

An initial match between Wizards F.C and Airborne Rangers saw the Blantyre based side win 2-1 with goals from Bernard Chimaimba and  Patrick Phiri with the consolation goal by Stain Malawi on the side of Airborne.

  8. Dedza loses appeal?thats funy,we all know sulom and fam are favouring a certain team, what are reasons for a playoff yet dedza is already the best team out of three relagated sides, which league was dedza playing, had it been it was different league that could make sense. What if airbone do not participate?will they also involve karonga united in the playoff if indeed chirumba barracks have pulled out?so many questions than answers.
