A 40 year-old in Nkhatabay district is in Police custody for repeatedly raping an 11 year-old girl.
According to Nkhatabay Police Spokesperson Ignatius Esau, the suspect, Kaziputa Banda, raped the young girl on several occasions in the month of March.
Esau said the victim gathered enough courage to report the man’s vile acts to her parents.
When he knew that the girl’s parents had been informed of his despicable conduct, the rapist offered to give the family various items so that they should drop the issue.
But the parents went on to report the sexual abuse to police and officers arrested the suspect.
A medical examination conducted at Chintheche Rural Hospital revealed that the girl had been raped on several occasions.
The suspect will soon appear in court to answer the charge of defilement which is contrary to section 138 of the penal code.
Banda comes from Chavula village in the area of Traditional Authority Fukamapiri in Nkhatabay.
