The Malawi Government has assured nurses who are yet to receive their March salaries that they will get the money within this week.
Spokesperson in the ministry of finance Nations Msowoya said the delay in disbursing the salaries was due to late submission of salary reports by the ministry of health.
“The problem has been that since December we have been requesting the ministry to submit returns in good time so that the process is done fast,” said Msowoya.
He added that the ministry of agriculture is also facing the same problem but he assured the nurses that they will receive their salaries within this week.
On her part, Executive Director of National Organisation for Nurses Harriet Bwanali said it is likely that the situation might affect the work of nurses.
“There are chances that this might affect the work of the nurses as they would not concentrate on their work due to other problems they might encounter due to the lack of money,” said Bwanali.
She was however optimistic that government will pay the nurses this week.
