Malawi national football team coach Ernest Mtawali has apologised to the nation and football lovers after the Flames suffered a defeat to Guinea on Tuesday.

The Flames lost 2 -1 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre in a must win game against Guinea in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mtawali (in caps) has apologized for the loss.

The coach told the media after the end of the match that the team deserved to lose because the boys didn’t perform as expected.

“I apologise to my fellow Malawians for the disappointing result, we didn’t play well today.”

“We will rectify the problem so as to do well in the remaining two games, an away game and a game at home against Zimbabwe,” said Mtawali

Malawi have been dumped in the mud at home in a game most Malawians thought the Flames will win after the goalleess draw between the two teams in Conakry.

Flames are now at the bottom of the group L with four points after four matches.

Malawi will meet Zimbabwe in June in Zimbabwe before playing Swaziland at Kamuzu Stadium to wrap up their games in the group.
