There is an unrest within the Immigration Department as government has opted to redeploy Masauko Medi to Malawi Police Services as Police Commissioner just a few days after he was was appointed as Chief Immigration Officer.
While reports say claim that Medi’s has come due to dwindling effectiveness by the department, loss of cash through damages and refunds and that the department failed to pass the passport availability litmus test under his charge, government maintains there is nothing behind the move calling it normal.
According to Minister of Home Affairs Jean Kalilani, the switch is just a normal one and therefore the reports that Medi has been redeployed for not performing are not true.
But the move has reportedly scared off some senior workers at the department amid fears that there would be more shake up if reports of under performances are anything to go by.
Medi was once Director of Community Policing in the MPS before his appointment to the Immigration Department.
He replaced Hudson Mankhwala who was redeployed to head the Refugees Unit in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security.
