Malawi Muslims attend Ijitma in SA

Thousands of Muslims from Malawi and other countries across the globe have gathered in Johannesburg South Africa to attend a three-day annual Islamic gathering known as the Ijitima organized by the international Sunni Jamaat Tablighi movement.

The event started on Friday and ends on Monday.

Muslims-at-prayer-600x399Speaking to the media, event organiser Mufti Bhoola said that about 25000 Muslims from several countries including Malawi attended the Friday prayers in Benoni, east of Johannesburg.

“The purpose of Ijitima is to bring Muslims together and remind them about the teachings of Islam and how they can live meaningful lives; about 25,000 people attended Friday prayers,” he said.

Malawi24 spoke to Said Mawunde who travelled from Malawi and is attending the event. Mawunde said the gathering will change his spiritual life.

“I’m grateful to be here because I believe by the end of this event my spirituality will be revived,’’ he said.

The annual gathering admits only Muslim males who attend lectures both during the day and at night.

The Jamaat Tabligi, founded in India in the early 1920s, has since developed into an international movement in over 150 countries.

The movement organizes an annual gathering in Bangladesh, known as Bishwa Ijtima, which draws millions of Muslims from across the globe.

Their main objective is to do Dawah (propagate Islam), often reminding Muslims to follow the true path of Islam and live meaningful lives.

Members of the movement from community mosques often visit homes in communities to remind Muslims about the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.

All of them are good people but what I don’t understand is why in most countries like Nigeria most of the killings is associated with Muslims? Let’s use our intellect, the Nazis massacred millions of jews in the early 20th century, Americans persecuted the native indians and drove them out of their lands, the boers killed and totured native south africans, the whites enslaved blacks and treated them worse than animals, where is the condemnation there? To add salt to wound, Blacks in America are still known as African American, still not American, why are the whites not casted from their original lands, just known as Americans etc?
