Outspoken Human rights activist John Kapito has said opposition leader Lazarus Chakwera is a Judas Iscariot who, together with President Peter Mutharika, has betrayed Malawians.

Kapito, irked by Chakwera’s gluttonous decision to accept a hefty salary hike for his role as leader of opposition, was speaking during the commemoration of World Consumers Day in Blantyre on Thursday

“We are simply saying that Judas Iscariot was the one that sold Jesus Christ today, in the Mountain of Gethsemane. Mr. Chakwera himself has sold us because we gave him trust as the one of the people that can stand for us. When you are leader of opposition, means to be standing with the people that are being oppressed and his job was not to fight for himself; to say that because I lost an election, therefore I am going to make sure that I oppress the people.

He was supposed to be in parliament and start speaking on our behalf, and start defending us. But see what Lazarus Chakwera is doing in Parliament- he has sold us. Because once he was given a big Prado and a big salary, then he was given two body guards, he started behaving as King Herod”.

The activists who had once likened himself to a dog that only barks to scare off enemy also called President Mutharika a Pontius Pirate.
