The Malawi mentor Ernest Mtawali handed Blue Eagles midfielder Wonder Jelemani his international debut whereas Joseph Kamwendo and Robert Ng’ambi returned to the Flames squad after a long absence and they both had a hand in the Flames goal.

After the hour mark, the Flames coach substituted Robert Ng’ambi, Isaac Kaliati, and Harry Nyirenda with Gabadinho Mhango, Yamikani Fodya, and John Lanjesi respectively as the Flames were in search of another goal but the game ended 1-1.

Mtawali said after the game that he was happy with the performance of his players.

He added that his team defended well and there was proper coordination.

He also praised Joseph Kamwendo and Robert Ng’ambi for a vintage display and young goalkeeper Brighton Munthali for standing up to the challenge on his debut.

However, defender Harry Nyirenda suffered a knock during the match against Sierra Leone but the Flames team doctor Levi Mwale was yet to determine the gravity of the injury.

The Flames have since proceeded to the airport to catch a flight to Conakry where they will link up with Chimango Kayira, John Banda, and Schumacher Kuwali ahead of Friday’s 2017 Afcon qualifier against Guinea
