Ghanaian arrested for attempting to obtain Malawian passport

Malawi PassportThe Immigration Department on Tuesday arrested a 36 year-old Ghanaian national after he attempted to obtain a Malawian passport.

According to deputy immigration department spokesperson, Wellington Chiponde, the suspect has been identified as 27 year-old Aome Isaac from Kumasi in Accra, the capital city of Ghana.

Chiponde said the department has also nabbed a Mangochi based man, Abdul Muhammad, from Idilisi village in the area of Traditonal Authority Galasi for aiding the Ghanaian suspect to obtain the passport.

According to the deputy publicist, the Ghanaian suspect entered the country illegally and falsely declared that he is a citizen of this country, which is contrary to section 327 of the penal code.

He added that the Malawian suspect aided the man to obtain a Malawi passport and he also false fully declared that the Ghanaian suspect is a Malawian national which is contrary to section 327 of the penal code.

The police publicist has since urged all Malawians not to be involved in such crimes and to avoid accepting money from foreigners in exchange for such help.
