…Brighton Munthali set to start

Flames coach Ernest Mtawali is expected to start Brighton Munthali in goals for Malawi’s friendly game against Sierra Leone in Freetown this afternoon.

Speaking to the media lately the mentor said that veteran goalkeepers like Charles Swini and Sinplex Nthala did not join the squad due to logistical problems.

Flames: To play Sierra Leone.

This could perhaps place Munthali and John Soko to ameliorate their capabilities as one of them is expected to stand between the poles for the Flames.

Both goalies have been a marvel to watch last season. Munthali  was strong for relegated side Wizards F.C and Soko saved the same tag for Blue Eagles.

According to reports, the Flames mentor will also use John Lanjesi, Yamikani Fodya, Harry Nyirenda and Limbikani Mzava as his defenders.

Mid-fielders Robert Ngambi, Joseph Kamwendo, Micium Mhone, and John Banda are expected to be operating the engine for the Flames.

Mtawali is also set to use a striking partnership of Chiukepo Msowoya and Gabadihno Mhango.

Mhango’s heroics have certainly been missed in the Flames side and its a hope he will relive them this time around.

This will be the third friendly meeting between the Leone Stars and the Flames with the latter winning the previous two encounters at home in Lilongwe way back in 1978.

There has never been a competitive fixture between the two teams.

Both the Flames and the Leone Stars will use this friendly match as dress rehearsal ahead of their must win African Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea and Gabon respectively.
