Man protests sentence against thug who exhumed albino body

Machinga

A man whose brother’s body was exhumed by thugs has vowed to appeal the 15-months sentence handed to one of the criminals by a court in Ntcheu.

The man, Moffat Ziligone, had a brother with albinism who died years ago.  However, thugs exhumed the body of Ziligone’s brother but one of the criminals was later caught.

CourtThe Kukasenje court in Ntcheu sentenced the thug to 15 months in prison after finding him guilty of the crime.

But Ziligone has protested the sentence saying it is such judgements that contribute to the huge rise in albino killings and abductions.

Zililigone also expressed concern about his brother’s three children who also have albinism, saying they might be attacked by thugs.

He argued that the abductor who exhumed the body of his late brother was not alone since one person cannot do such a thing.

Commenting on the issue, president of Association of People with Albinism (Apam) Boniface Massa said such judgements will only make people with albinism to continue living in fear.

Massa reminded government of its promise to protect people with albinism in the country.

He also asked the courts and the law enforcers to be at the forefront protecting lives of people with albinism in the country.
