Mzuzu Stadium, the only Super League-standard stadium in the Northern Region is now unfit to host games just weeks before the top flight league kicks off.
On Sunday part of the fence at Mzuzu Stadium succumbed to a heavy downpour that hit the city and the stadium is now unusable.
This is bad news for the Northern Region’s Super League teams since the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) warned that it will ban the stadium from hosting games if authorities fail to improve its condition.
The stadium is set to be the home ground for Moyale Barracks FC, Chilumba Barracks, and Mzuzu University (Mzuni) FC during the upcoming Super League season.
However, the Mzuzu City Council says it will fix the fence before the start of the Super League season.
“That should not cause panic because the area which has fallen down was part of the damaged columns that were under maintenance.
“MCC is doing everything possible to have the facility ready to host 2016 TNM Super League,” said MCC assistant director of parks, leisure and environment Yotam Mtafwa.
