The Neno second grade magistrate court on Thursday sentenced two men to three years imprisonment with hard labour each for kidnapping a 16 year-old girl.

State prosecutor Shadreck Wisick identified the two convicts as Harrison Nkhonyani, 31, and Kaunda Pulayizi.

CourtHe said Nkhonyani established a church called Soul Winning Ministry in the area of Traditional Authority Saimon in the district.

Residents started flocking to the church and Pulayizi was one of them. He later became a full member and was given the task of mobilising young girls to join the congregation.

That is when he convinced the victim to join the ministry and to be living with the two men at the church.

This was done without the knowledge of the girl’s parents who reported the matter to police after noticing that their child was missing.

The girl was found with the two abductors at their church and the police arrested the duo.

Passing the sentence, second grade magistrate Daniel Dzowera, said the two deserved a stiff punishment and he handed each of them a three-year jail term saying the abduction disturbed the future of the girl.

Nkhonyani hails from Dunda village in the area of Traditional Authority Njolomole in Ntcheu while Pulayizi hails from Kazandi village in the area of Chief Saimon in Neno district.
