Malawians across the country have expressed shock at the death of renowned gospel musician Grace Chinga.

Chinga was pronounced dead on arrival at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre on Wednesday night.

Many Malawian musicians have taken to social media to pay tribute to the songbird.

Skeffa Chimoto said: “With heavy heart am deeply shocked with the untimely death of Malawi’s Gospel diva Grace Chinga. Not long ago we were mourning Andrew Matrauza and today its Grace, I am just short of words. This is a very big blow to Malawian music and gospel music in particular.

“My condolence goes to her family, relatives, friends, fans and all Malawians for the loss of Grace Chinga. May her gentle soul rest in eternal peace.”

While hip-hop artist Gwamba said: “May the soul of Grace Chinga Moffat rest in eternal peace. We love you, but God loves you more. Will see you when the time is right. Love.”

Commenting on an article published earlier on, some Malawians have also mourned the death of the gospel musician.

“Grace Chinga Moffat…. why so soon?? Rest in peace!!” wrote Washington  Howahowa from Balaka district.

While Mauwa Thom Khanje wrote: “I can’t believe this, she’s dead?? Why so soon Mai Chinga?? I personally I expected a lot from u and am shocked to hear that you are dead. You were such an amazing gospel female artist, may your soul rest in peace Grace.”

Gloria Misomali wrote:  “I have got nothing to say. My best female gospel singer. You will always be in our minds, may your soul rest in eternal peace.”

The musician is survived by three children and she will be buried on Saturday at HHI Cemetery.
