A grouping of youths in Malawi’s Northern region city of Mzuzu is expected to hold demonstrations against the current socio-economic woes that have characterized the Peter Mutharika led government.
According to the grouping, the demos have also be organized in the backing of calls for Mutharika to step down.
Initially, the grouping has issues a petition to the government demanding the government to address the current hunger situation-which it has apparently denied as well the increasing cost of living.
The youth grouping has also been lamenting the alarming rates of unemployment of youths in the country.
Emerging reports however indicate that there is a faction within the grouping which is against the demos on the argument that the maize crisis is being ended by the provision of maize to Admarc depots with the other issues well deserved to give government time.
The faction also says that demos could cost peoples lives, borrowing memories from July 20, 2011, as up to 20 people got shot by police in an unrest against the late Bingu wa Mutharika regime.
However, Malawi24 has received confirmations are on because as on Sunday evening a consent that the grouping sought from police in the city had not been canceled.
A recent vigil against Mutharika on the issue of maize crisis had failed to take place.
Mutharika on Saturday asked his critics to join hands with him instead of castigating him as it is the case now.
