They have struggled enough, but the Southern Football League can now breathe a sigh of relief for reaching a sponsorship deal with Master Security- a deal placed at a whooping MK 10.5 Million.
The sponsorship is a one year rolling contract which will be reviewed after the end of every season for up to three years.
Master Security has already paid K3 million in advance as well as medals and trophies for the upcoming 2016 Southern Region league season.
Speaking at the signing ceremony at Mpira Village in Blantyre on Friday, Master Security managing director Alfred Gangata said his company thought it wise to sponsor the league as it was the only regional league in Malawi that had no sponsor.
“It is sad that despite the huge business deals given to international companies, they don’t invest back in the communities.
“As a Malawian company we feel we should show them the way though we are minor players in the industry.
“We cannot sit here and make money from Malawians and let big adventures like the Southern Region Football League die,” said Gangata.
Gangata added that his company will continue sponsoring football and promised the soccer fraternity that if all goes well, his company will come up with a national trophy.
“We are here to stay and we will continue sponsoring in other football circles,” he said.
Southern Region Football Association (SFRA) chairman Raphael Humba described the coming in of the security firm as a relief to his association after being mocked following a contractual dispute with previous sponsor Nsejjere last season.
“It is a huge relief to us and we will safeguard this. I would like to thank Master Security for the sponsorship and as a league we would also like thank FAM Competitions Manager Gomezgani Zakazaka who initiated the deal alongside the Commercial Director Limbani Matola,” said Humba
On his part Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu thanked Master Security for rescuing SRFA and has promised the company that they will benefit from the deal.
Nyamilandu said: “We will do our level best to ensure that you get maximum value in return of the investment you have made in football. You are not wrong in partnering with us, you have come to the right platform and we will give you all the support.
“You are a small company but have made huge sacrifices which we don’t take for granted and big companies should be asking themselves why they can’t do this.”
