Elias Chatha, a 22 year-old man has been arrested after police in Machinga district intensified investigations into the abduction and murder of a nine year-old boy with albinism.
Head of Police Investigators in Machinga, Inspector Isaac Ndala confirmed the arrest of Chatha and said he was nabbed in the early hours of Tuesday this week at Nayuchi in the district after a tipoff.
Chatha is being kept at Machinga Police as the law enforcers conduct further investigations.
Two unidentified thugs abducted the boy at Mpakati village, Traditional Authority Chikweo in the district and the mother’s boy sustained head injuries in an attempt to rescue the boy.
After five days the head of the boy was found at Adamson Village in Chikweo area but the body is yet to be found.
According to Machinga Police, the search for other suspects is still in progress as villagers are still providing tips to the law enforcers.
Eastern Region Police conducted two interface meetings in Machinga this week where the police called on communities at Chikweo and Traditional Authority Sitola’s area to cooperate with the police in dealing with abductors and killers of people with albinism.
